Rubric for Selecting Appropriate Assessment Tools 

    Assessment is the systematic process of gathering and interpreting evidence of student learning.  Teachers select appropriate assessment tools by ensuring alignment with learning objectives, validity, reliability, fairness, and practicality.  They use diverse methods like formative and summative assessments, and consider accessibility and bias.  Future educators gain expertise through coursework, mentorship, and professional development.

    Analytic Rubrics these break down the criteria for evaluating assessment tools into specific components (e.g., alignment with learning objectives, validity, reliability, fairness, practicality).  Each component receives a separate score, providing detailed feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of each tool.  This is best for a thorough evaluation, allowing for precise identification of areas needing improvement.

This rubric provides a framework for evaluating the suitability of various assessment tools for specific learning objectives and student needs.  Each criterion is scored on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being unsatisfactory and 5 being excellent.

• Below 55%: Unacceptable choice of assessment tool; reconsider alternatives.
